An Israeli hospital on Monday, December 27, began administering a fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine to its caregivers, as part of a clinical trial that is expected to precede a national campaign whose launch date has not yet been announced.

The country’s Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said last Wednesday that all Israelis over 60 and medical staff would be entitled to a fourth dose, as the country struggles to contain the spread of the Omicron variant.

However, this decision has yet to be approved by the Ministry of Health.

Caregivers will be monitored for six months to assess the possible rise in antibodies and the appearance of side effects and whether or not the fourth dose actually reduces the risk of infection.
