Inspired by the Aero Sport Lounge concept, the DS4 is distinguished by its unusual proportions. Compact (4.40 m) and rather wide (1.83 m), it sits on huge 72 cm diameter wheels – a record for the category – which give its profile a very dynamic character accentuated by a plunging coupé-style roof and a small, very sloping rear window. Another distinctive sign, its black grille associated with the luminous ”DS Wings” signature embodies the new face of the French luxury brand.
For Thierry Metroz, Styling Director of DS Automobiles, “this Most Beautiful Car of the Year award is a reward for the women and men who have shaped DS 4, well beyond the DS DESIGN STUDIO PARIS teams. Even before drawing the first pencil stroke, we worked for two years with our engineers to shape the technical platform. When we launched the creative process, we had exceptional leeway to deploy a new concept. Reserved for a production car that was presented during the year 2021 and marketed at a price of less than €60,000, the prize for the “most beautiful car of the year 2022” was awarded this year by a jury of professionals chaired by Jean-Michel Wilmotte (Architect) and Anne Asencio (Vice-President Design Experience Dassault Systems).
The Renault 5 Prototype voted the most beautiful concept car
For this somewhat special edition, Internet users were also asked to vote for the most beautiful concept car. In the running this year were Audi Skysphere, BMW i Vision Circular, Cupra Urban Rebel, Lexus LF-Z Electrified, Kia Concept EV9, Porsche Mission R, Smart concept #1, Volkswagen ID.Life, Volvo Concept Recharge and Renault 5 Prototype. It is the latter, prefiguring an electric model expected for 2024 which won with more than 70% of the votes. This is undoubtedly a good omen for the diamond brand.
