A week after the start of the war in Ukraine, sanctions against Russia continue to fall. After the Russian athletes, it is now the cats who are sanctioned. The International Feline Federation has thus taken the decision to ban all Russian cats from its competitions for the next three months.

In a statement, the International Feline Federation, which considers itself “the United Nations of feline federations”, said it was deeply “shocked and horrified” by the Russian offensive in Ukraine on Thursday, February 24.

Thus, “the Board of Directors believes that it cannot simply witness these atrocities and do nothing.”

He adds that no cat “belonging to exhibitors living in Russia can be entered in a federation show outside of Russia, regardless of the organization of which these exhibitors are members”.

Moreover, no Russian cat can be imported or registered in the genealogy booklets.

These new restrictions are therefore valid until the end of May but will be reviewed if necessary, federation officials said.

Similarly, the federation has already announced that it will help Ukrainian cat breeders through the establishment of an aid fund.

With more than 100,000 members, the FIFe organizes more than 700 shows each year exhibiting more than 200,000 cats.
