With the arrival of the Omicron variant, Morocco decided on December 9, via a Council of Government, to extend the closure of its borders until December 31. The kingdom had a first closure on November 29.

In mid-November, Morocco had already decided to suspend all regular flights to and from France after a case of the Omicron variant was discovered on Reunion Island.

This news marks a halt for Moroccan tourist activity and this while the country had just strengthened access controls to the territory.

France is not the only country concerned. With it, it is the Netherlands, Great Britain and Russia that suffer the closure of borders. Only so-called exceptional repatriation flights are authorized, all subject to strict controls by the Moroccan authorities. The government is not at its first attempt. In March 2020, the country had closed its borders for several months in the light of the health crisis.
