Elie Tenenbaum, director of security studies at IFRI was the guest of La Matinale weekend on CNEWS, the latter returned to the nuclear threat from Vladimir Putin, believing that the Russian leader should be taken seriously.
For this specialist, “one must always take seriously a leader of a nuclear power who issues threats”.
Indeed, since the beginning of the Russian offensive in Ukraine, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the mobilization of the country’s “deterrent forces”, while indirectly brandishing the possible use of nuclear weapons.
And since then, warnings from the Kremlin to Westerners helping Ukraine to fight against the invader have followed one another. The latest was made last Monday when Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov brandished the threat of a third world war.
