An explosion in a mosque in northern Afghanistan killed at least 33 people on Friday April 22, the Taliban government spokesman announced.

The place of worship exploded in the Imam Sahib district of Kunduz (north), as Muslims are currently observing the holy month of Ramadan.

The spokesman for the Taliban, who regained power in Afghanistan in August 2021, Zabihullah Mujahid accused “seditionists” of having blown up this mosque.

“The perpetrators of these incidents are seditionists and evil elements. Serious efforts are being made to arrest and punish them. God willing,” the government official wrote on his Twitter account.

Zabihullah Mujahid also paid tribute to the victims of this tragedy and offered his condolences to the families of the victims. “We condemn this crime, wish heaven to the martyrs and a speedy recovery to the injured, and express our deepest condolences to those bereaved.”
