British MP Neil Parish, the subject of an internal investigation after being accused of watching pornography on his mobile phone in the House of Commons, finally admitted the facts and resigned from his post on Saturday.
“I was looking for tractors,” the 65-year-old former farmer told the BBC. I came across another site that had a similar name and looked for a while, which I shouldn’t have done”. In an interview with the Daily Telegraph published on Saturday morning, Neil Parish had suggested that he may have opened the site “by mistake”.
“But my crime, my biggest crime, is that I went back there a second time and it was deliberate,” he confessed on the verge of tears, evoking a “moment of madness”.
a bad incident
As a reminder, the incident occurred in the midst of a debate on sexism in Parliament. Sunday, the Sunday Times had revealed that three ministers and two deputies of the opposition are currently the subject of accusations of “bad behavior of a sexual nature”, a term which can cover sexual harassment, voyeurism or even sexual assault.
They are among 56 deputies reported to an office responsible for registering these complaints, set up following the Metoo movement. A misogynistic attack against the number two of the Labor Party, Angela Rayner, relayed by the tabloid Mail on Sunday, had also sparked a controversy.
According to this newspaper, anonymous Tory MPs then accused Ms Rayner of enjoying distracting the Prime Minister by crossing and uncrossing her legs in Parliament, which Boris Johnson called “sexist and misogynistic bullshit”.
