In the context of the lawsuit brought by Johnny Depp for defamation, the lawyers of Amber Heard described this Tuesday in an American court the hell that the young actress would have lived, victim of a husband transformed according to them into a “monster” by drugs and alcohol and whose outbursts of “anger” culminated in physical and sexual violence.
Amber Heard “loved the side of Johnny that we see in the movies, charismatic, charming, generous, he’s the man she fell in love with,” her lawyer Elaine Bredehoft told the jurors.
“But unfortunately the monster (…) appeared when he was drinking or taking drugs,” she added, referring to cocktails of alcohol, drugs, cocaine, ecstasy and hallucinogenic mushrooms .
Johnny Depp had in him “a huge anger” which transformed him into a “demon” who “verbally, psychologically, physically and sexually attacked” Amber Heard, explained Me Bredehoft. She recounted several scenes of violence, notably in March 2015 in Australia, where Johnny Depp was filming the fifth episode of Pirates of the Caribbean.
The model and the actor had met in 2011 on the set of “Rum Express”, before getting married in 2015 and separating the following year, in May 2016. In a column published in 2018 in the Washington Post, Amber Heard had claimed that she had suffered domestic violence from her former spouse, without ever naming Johnny Depp.
The actor had filed a defamation suit against his former wife the following year. Their divorce was finalized in August 2016 and details of their private life had already been revealed in 2020 during the defamation lawsuit brought by Johnny Depp to the tabloid The Sun.
