Special envoy to Russia for the meeting between Presidents Emmanuel Macron and Vladimir Putin, CNEWS journalist Loïc Signor questioned the Russian leader on his intentions to invade Ukraine.

“It seems illogical to me to say that Russia is advancing towards NATO’s borders. It is the exact opposite. […] Ask your citizens if they want France to go to war against Russia,” replied Vladimir Putin.

The President of the Russian Federation assured his “fear” of seeing Ukraine join NATO, since “several Western countries consider that certain parts of Ukraine belong to this territory, whereas we consider that they belong to Russia”.

Following his reasoning, Vladimir Putin described a crisis situation developed within NATO. “What will happen next? Will there be war against Russia? The war between Russia and NATO?”, before ensuring that Russia’s main concern was to maintain European and global security.
