Negotiations between Ukraine and Russia have started in Belarus to try to find a solution following the military invasion by Russia last Thursday.

The Kremlin adviser Vladimir Medinski chairs the Russian delegation, while that of Kiev is led by the Ukrainian Minister of Defense, Oleksiï Reznikov, who came in khaki military uniform. “You can feel completely safe,” declared the head of Belarusian diplomacy, Vladimir Makeï, welcoming them.

Prior to this meeting, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had urged Russia to a ceasefire. He also called on the Russians to “lay down their arms” and “leave Ukraine”.

For his part, the Kremlin spokesman did not wish to give details of the talks. “I’m not going to announce the positions we have, etc. Negotiations must be done in silence,” said Dmitri Peskov.
