Four French, a Belgian and five Egyptians lost their lives on Wednesday April 13 in a bus accident in Aswan, in the tourist south of Egypt.

The vehicle, which was carrying tourists, collided with a car early this morning.

He was then moving on the long desert road of nearly 300 km leading to the temples of Abu Simbel, one of the main tourist sites in Egypt.

A video, shared on Twitter by Egyptian media outlet Rassd News Network, shows the crashed bus engulfed in flames.

According to a press release published by the governorate, the tragedy also left 14 injured, eight French and six Belgians. They are in “stable condition” after being hospitalized with “fractures, bruises and superficial injuries”.

Road accidents are unfortunately frequent in Egypt, where the roads are often poorly maintained and the rules of the road not respected. In 2020, the country officially counted 7,000 people killed in traffic accidents.
