JSo far, it’s a flop. While the anti-Covid vaccination was opened to all children aged 5 to 11 on December 22 (it was already possible, on that date, for the most fragile for a week), only 1% of individuals of this age group received a first injection, reports RTL. And as there are only 5.7 million 5-11 year olds, that makes, at present, 72,000 young people first vaccinated.

On December 16, an Elabe poll for BFMTV and The Express reported that 68% of parents of children, aged 5 to 11, were against vaccination. Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer had tried to reassure them, assuring that the vaccination of children was “safe”, and confident that his own daughter, aged 11, would soon be vaccinated.

“Not very surprising”

The Dr Fabienne Kochert, president of the French Association of Ambulatory Pediatrics, estimated on RTL that this figure of 1% was “not very surprising”. There is this data concerning parents not convinced by the vaccination of children, but also a logistical dimension, since the implementation was done during the first week of the Christmas holidays.

“There are a few more centers that are starting to have pediatric lines, but it is not yet all the centers. Logistics are slowly following, ”explained the Dr Fabienne Kochert on RTL.
